Worthing Rowing Club takes on the Monster!

WRC Knucker Dragons have monstered the Loch!

At Worthing Rowing Club, we love a challenge—and what better challenge than rowing the length of the legendary Loch Ness? This year, a group of our adventurous rowers traveled to Scotland to take part in Monster the Loch, a 21-mile endurance race across one of the most famous bodies of water in the world.

With 120 crews and 450 competitors from around the globe, the event brought together an incredible mix of boats, from sleek coastal rowing shells to self-built wooden craft, dragon boats, and even pedalos! The race, designed to follow the wind, saw crews starting from either Dores or Fort Augustus, with conditions that started off beautifully before the famous Loch delivered its signature challenge—a strong tailwind that made for an exciting finish.

Our Worthing rowers took on the unpredictable waters with determination, enjoying the unique experience of rowing on a vast freshwater loch surrounded by breathtaking Scottish scenery. Unlike our usual sea rowing along the Sussex coast or winter outings on the River Adur, this was a completely different test of endurance, teamwork, and adaptability.

While we love our coastal roots, we’re always looking for opportunities to take our rowing beyond racing and explore new waters. Monster the Loch was an unforgettable

adventure, proving that wherever there’s a challenge, Worthing Rowing Club will rise to it.
